Three reasons to switch to an electric vehicle fleet

Leasing electric vehicles offers a whole host of benefits for businesses, from reducing your fleet emissions to cost savings.

1. Reduced environmental impact

Transitioning all or even part of your fleet to zero or low-emission vehicles can significantly reduce your business’s Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions, helping you achieve your sustainability goals. Our fleet emission reduction experts will delve into the data so you can quantify the impact an electric vehicle fleet could have on your business.

2. Financial gains

EVs can save your business money on multiple fronts: EVs generally have lower running and maintenance costs compared to internal combustion engine vehicles, resulting in long-term financial savings. They may also be eligible for a fringe benefits tax exemption, which could lead to substantial savings if your fleet vehicles currently incur FBT and there's also our 0.5% interest rate discount on electric vehicles*.

3. Improved reputation

An EV fleet is a tangible example of your business’s commitment to sustainability, which you can leverage to attract environmentally conscious customers and employees. Our fleet emissions reduction experts can help you showcase your achievements in your Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting.

EV fleet charging strategy

Developing a comprehensive EV fleet charging strategy is a crucial component of managing an EV fleet. This strategy can include charging in the employee's home, at the workplace and at public charging stations. If you need to install EV chargers, we design and implement an EV charging infrastructure plan in partnership with a network of EV charging infrastructure providers.

Driver policies & employee engagement

A new fleet strategy will require new policies, particularly around how you support your employees in charging their EVs at home. We provide guidance on updating driver policies to support your strategy, as well as engaging and educating your team to ensure a smooth transition to an electric fleet. This helps ensure the effective use of EVs and maximises the benefits of your fleet's emissions reduction strategy.

Insights & reporting

In-depth reporting is the key to the continuous optimisation of any fleet strategy. We provide detailed reports on vehicle performance, charging behaviors, cost savings and emissions reductions. This data allows you to confidently reimburse your employees when charging at home and will allow you to showcase your progress towards your environmental goals in sustainability reports.

FAQs

What types of businesses could benefit from our fleet emissions reduction consulting services?

Businesses that have one vehicle or one hundred vehicles in their fleet. No matter what type of business you’re in, our Fleet Emissions experts can help you figure out an approach for you and your business where you could benefit from switching to lower-emission vehicles.

Are there government incentives available for EV fleet adoption in Australia?

We’re working alongside the Australian Government’s Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) to offer you a simpler – and cheaper – way to go green. You’ll get a 0.5% interest rate discount* in your monthly vehicle lease cost. This discount is available on a wide range of electric vehicles, and we’re proud to be the only fleet management organisation to work with the CEFC to offer this finance solution.

You could also be eligible for the electric vehicle fringe benefit tax exemption (EV FBT exemption) also referred to as the Electric Vehicle Discount Act 2022, which is a Federal Government incentive designed to encourage the adoption of EVs and reduce carbon emissions in Australia.

      * The 0.5% interest rate discount is applied to the prevailing interest rates set by FleetPartners to calculate monthly lease rentals on company operating lease vehicles only. Not applicable to Novated Leases.

How do emissions from electric vehicles compare to those of traditional fleet vehicles over the life of the lease?

Full EVs have no tailpipe emissions, so you would eliminate your vehicle’s direct emissions (known as Scope 1 emissions) altogether.

Where your EVs are charged will determine the total picture of your emissions across all Scopes. But no matter where you charge, EVs are more energy and emissions efficient than all other engine technologies.

How can we accurately measure and report our fleet's emissions before and after EV adoption?

We recommend leveraging a fuel card management approach and a well-designed charging strategy, which can provide you the insights you need for accurate reporting. Our Fleet Emissions experts can help you with this measurement and reporting, so you have a clear picture on your n your fleet’s emissions before and after making the transition to an electric fleet.

How can we determine if electric vehicles have enough range for our fleet applications?

Our vehicle recommendations are based on a thorough analysis of your fleet usage, including where the vehicles operate, their daily activities and how they are garaged. Not all types of vehicles offer an electric option just yet, so we evaluate the feasibility of transitioning your fleet to EVs based on your business's specific needs and what’s in the market today.

Sometimes the best approach is to embrace the most fuel-efficient hybrid technology today while waiting for the right EV to arrive in the market.

What are the benefits of powering our EV fleet with renewable energy sources?

Powering your EV fleet with renewable energy sources, like solar or wind power, can reduce your business’s fleet emissions even further, potentially to zero. As part of your overall strategy, we’ll outline the benefits of using renewable energy to charge your vehicles.

What support is available after transitioning to an EV fleet?

In addition to our Fleet Management team, our Fleet Emissions experts are here to help you throughout your entire fleet journey, from your initial strategy through to fleet management and beyond.
